Key Thematic Areas of the Drive:

The drive will encompass a holistic approach that will focus on key initiatives being undertaken by KEPRO. These thematic areas include:

  1. The Sustainable Waste Management Act of 2022 and the draft EPR Regulations Though the Sustainable Waste Management Act of 2022 has been around for almost 2 years, information on its provisions and demands still seems to be lacking or not appreciated by all users involved. As an entity whose core mandate is to carry out Section 13 of the SWMA of 2022 on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), it is in our best interest to educate, empower and find ways of collaboration with other stakeholders in ensuring that sustainable waste management practices are being adopted and practised both at individual and institution capacity. By bringing all the relevant stakeholders in the room, our goal is to identify everyone’s role in sustainable waste management and come up with effective workplans that help us realize our goals.

  2. The Consumer-Led Transformation (CLT) initiative The Consumer-Led Transformation initiative is a 3-year multi-phased project that is aimed at empowering consumers with knowledge and information that will ensure they adopt more environmentally conscious behaviour. The goal is to ultimately have the consumer dispose of their waste properly to the point of segregating their waste at the source. The three phases include Awareness Creation, Promotion of Segregation at Source and Increasing the affinity of Recycled products. We will shed light on the micro-programs and how you or your community can be involved, during the event.

  3. The Waste Collectors Toolkit Dissemination The toolkit’s main aim was to empower informal waste collectors to effectively operationalize their business and to realize the benefits of formalization. Not only does the toolkit empower but it also educates on proper waste handling techniques for them. This toolkit contains the following topics: Introduction to Waste Collection strategies, Regulatory frameworks in waste collection, OSHA, waste categorization, recycling and reusing guide and waste as a business case. This dissemination aims to make this information publicly accessible, especially to the waste workers and to see it being operationalized by them.
