29th April 2025 marked a historic moment as the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) and the Kenya Extended Producer Responsibility Organization (KEPRO) signed a groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)!

In a landmark move to redefine sustainability in Kenya’s floriculture industry, the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) and the Kenya Extended Producer Responsibility Organization (KEPRO) have signed a transformative MoU. The agreement, witnessed by KEPRO CEO James Odongo, KFC CEO Clement Tulezi, and COO Catherine Mukoko, cements a strategic partnership that seeks to embed circular economy principles into one of Kenya’s most vital export sectors.

The collaboration focuses on three key areas: circular economy innovation, smart packaging design, and policy advocacy. By turning waste into value, KFC and KEPRO aim to reduce the environmental footprint of the flower value chain. Through research and innovation, the partnership will also explore sustainable packaging alternatives that preserve flower quality while minimizing plastic use. At the policy level, both organizations will work jointly to accelerate the industry’s compliance with the 2024 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations.

This initiative comes at a critical time. As a global leader in flower exports, Kenya must align its practices with growing international demands for environmental responsibility. The KFC–KEPRO partnership will empower producers to integrate sustainable practices that not only meet compliance requirements but also enhance competitiveness in global markets. This is more than a regulatory response—it's a vision for a thriving, circular, and environmentally resilient floriculture sector.

In conclusion, the partnership between KFC and KEPRO represents a bold step forward for Kenya’s flower industry. By embracing innovation, advocating for responsible practices, and investing in sustainable design, the sector is being positioned as a champion of green growth. This collaboration is a call to action for all stakeholders to contribute to a circular economy that benefits business, people, and the planet.
