About the Awards

A national platform for circular economy leadership

The SPiCE Awards celebrate organisations, institutions and individuals advancing Kenya's transition to a circular economy through innovation, sustainable packaging and effective Extended Producer Responsibility. The Awards recognise leadership that goes beyond regulatory compliance to deliver measurable environmental, social and economic impact — culminating in a members' cocktail and gala night honouring the year's standout achievements.

2 Circular Business Leadership Award
Who Should Apply
Large corporations, manufacturers, producer associations, and integrated waste value chain actors.
Objective
To recognise enterprises that have successfully embedded circular economy strategies into core business operations and demonstrated measurable commercial, environmental, and policy leadership outcomes.
Selection Criteria
  • Financial Performance: Evidence of improved revenue, cost efficiency, or return on investment from circular initiatives.
  • Business Model Innovation: Integration of circularity into the core business strategy.
  • Strategic Influence: Contributions to sector transformation, policy engagement, or national EPR alignment.
  • Scalability & Replicability: Clear pathways for expansion, adoption, or replication in other sectors or regions.
3 Circular Economy CBO Award
Who Should Apply
Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) driving circular economy and sustainable waste management initiatives.
Objective
To recognise CBOs making a meaningful impact in advancing circular economy practices and improving waste management within communities.
Selection Criteria
  • Community Impact: Demonstrated positive impact within the community.
  • Circularity & Innovation: Adoption of innovative approaches to waste reduction, recovery, reuse, or recycling.
  • Community Engagement: Active participation and mobilisation of community members.

4 County Circular Economy Champion Award
Who Should Apply
County governments, departments, and county-led initiatives advancing circular economy practices.
Objective
To recognise counties demonstrating leadership and measurable progress in advancing circular economy and sustainable waste management.

  • Leadership & Governance: Strong commitment and leadership in advancing circular economy practices.

5 Excellence in Packaging Recovery and Recycling Systems

Recycling companies, producer responsibility organisations, logistics providers, and county waste management partners.

To reward organisations implementing effective, innovative, and inclusive packaging recovery, recycling, or material reclamation programmes.
